Concurrent Enrollment
Get a head start on college credits!
What is Concurrent Enrollment? Concurrent Enrollment allows you to take Butte College courses while still attending high school (or an equivalent program), earning college credits that can also fulfill your high school requirements. Your enrollment and service fees are waived, though you'll still need to cover course material fees and textbooks.
Why should I concurrently enroll? Concurrent Enrollment is a fantastic way to earn college credits early and save money—your tuition is free! It also lets you explore new subjects, get a head start on your college journey, and discover potential career paths, all with flexible scheduling that fits your needs.
Who can participate? Any student who is currently 1) Enrolled in high school (or lower grade); 2) Pursing a high school diploma or equivalent; or 3) Attending a noncredit or adult education program. Students must be a California resident.
Application Process

- Step 3: Submit the Pre-Registration Form. Complete the digital Concurrent Enrollment Pre-Registration Form each semester. The form will request:
- Student & School Information: Include your contact information, your current school, and your school counselor/adult education manager.
- Course Enrollment: List the courses you want to take (e.g., HIST-10 or MATH-18) after consulting with your school counselor/adult education manager. Include alternate courses in case your first choices fill up. Some courses have prerequisites and can be found in the Course Catalog or by searching for classes here.
- Document Upload: Depending on your situation, you may need to upload documents like:
- Consent Form if you are a first-time Butte College student
- Private School Affidavit if you are in a homeschool program or your school is not affiliated with a public school district
- Unofficial Transcript if you are enrolling in a course with prerequisites
- Petition to Challenge a Prequequitiste Form if the student wishes to challenge a prerequist based on the grounds that they have the knowledge or ability to succeed in the course (e.g., took Spanish in high school and challenging the SPAN-1 prerequisite for SPAN-2).
Review & Approval Process. After submission, your Pre-Registration form will be sent to your school counselor/education manager for review and approval. Once approved, our School Relations Team process your form, which may take 3-5 business days. You'll receive an email notification upon approval or if additional documents are needed. Please note, your form will not be processed until all required documents are submitted.
